Kara Elizabeth is half of the band Team Smile and Nod. She writes the lyrics and the vocal and guitar melodies. She likes to make weird sounds with her mouth and voice. She is also a recording engineer. Kara is the founder of Thinkroot Records.
Kara Elizabeth loves to write sad songs. Moreover, she loves to write sad songs in a funny way. Though it is true, Kara is sad, her approach to music and life in general is idealistic. One can even feel the root of hope in her sad sad songs that are not at all funny.

When people don't know what to say about Kara's music, they usually say "Hey Kara, I listened to your songs, you have a great voice." Sometimes, Kara gets down about how people say that, because she feels that the songs are more than just a pretty voice. They are a demonstration of Kara's feelings, political beliefs, hopes, fears, love, depression, anger, and humor. Sometimes, Kara's minor obsession with death makes people uncomfortable. But as Kara says in her song "Kill Myself to Death", "every breath- closer to death- called life."

Kara writes a lot of songs about her life-partner, Katie. And by life-partner, we mean monogamously coupled lesbians. And by monogamously coupled lesbians, we mean "if-it-were-legal-we-would-be-married-not-in-a-religious-way-but-for-the-thousand-plus-privilages-it-grants-hetero-couples." They have been together for over 9 years now. Katie wrote the words to the song "On the Road." You can hear a snippet of it below.

Kara has been writing songs for over 15 years. Recently, she and Katie decided that if she didn't try to be a rock star now, she would never be one. Therefore, in early 2008, Kara established Thinkroot Records to promote and release her subversive musical projects. One of the main Thinkroot Records goals is to do business right. For example, offerings will be of highest possible quality. Things like social and environmental values are a priority.
